De Profundis Press Release - September 2011

UK-based Progressive Extreme Metallers De Profundis will begin recording the follow up to their second album “A Bleak Reflection” in November. The production duties will once again be handled by Fernando Pereira Lopes (Misanthrope, Orakle).

The band will be recording 8 new songs, totalling approximately 55 minutes in length.

Shoi Sen (guitar) comments: “The writing this time was really exciting, because this line up has now been recording and touring for the last 2 years, so we have gelled a lot as a unit and this transpired in the writing. The music is faster, more technical and more condensed than in the past. We have already been playing a couple of new songs on the road and judging by the crazy reaction we get for them, I think people will get a shock when they hear this new album. We will be posting regular updates and videos snippets of new songs on our revamped Facebook page so make sure to check it out!”

A release date for the third De Profundis opus hasn’t been set yet, also which label the new album will be released by is not yet known.

Sony Music will release the new album in India.

De Profundis has been steadily gathering a global fan base with multiple tours across Europe and India.

You can see the band in full force during their performance at the The Great Indian Octoberfest 2010.

De Profundis Endorsed by Hughes and Kettner Amplifiers

We are very proud to announce that De Profundis has signed an endorsement deal with Germany's Hughes and Kettner Amplifiers. Here's what Shoi Sen had to say:

“Roman and I have used a variety of amps over the years, both to record and to tour with. When I saw Jeff Waters from Annihilator using the Coreblade, I was simply blown away by what the amp could do. Killer tones in a programmable valve amp loaded with effects - I really couldn’t ask for more!!! I approached Hughes & Kettner through their distributors Headline Music about a possible endorsement, and I was really pleased to see that they were really keen on working with De Profundis. In fact, our new amps have just arrived today. This means that Roman and myself will be able to simplify our live rig without sacrificing any of the tone. Can’t wait for the tour to get started so we can unleash these new H&K monsters live!”

"A Bleak Reflection" Press

The press coverage for the second De Profundis album entitled "A Bleak Reflection" (out 1st February 2010 on Kolony Records) has already started taking shape. Below is a list of reviews & interviews that the band has done so far. This list is by no means final and will be updated regularly - please check back soon for more of both!

"A Bleak Reflection" Reviews

Terrorizer Magazine (UK) - 8/10

"Now this is something quite pleasant - in the gloomiest, most unpleasant sense of the word, of course. De Profundis have shared a stage with Iron Maiden, and, although "A Bleak Reflection" is far closer to the likes of Swallow the Sun and Katatonia, its almost addictive, doomy resonance promises adulation from metal fans of all varieties".

Zero Tolerance Magazine (UK) - 4.5/6 ("Featured Album")

"With "A Bleak Reflection", the band have again avoided fitting easily into any pigeonhole... Melodic, heavy and strangely tranquil, even when Craig Land's superb guttural vocals are roaring from the speakers. This isn't doom in the spirit-crushing sense; rather, the album is imbued with an elegiac, melancholy atmosphere which is paradoxically both soothing and metallic. The black metal influences which were detectable on "Beyond Redemption" also crop up all over "A Bleak Reflection", notably on 'Nocturnal Splendour' and the superb, epic "Ablaze in Autumn's Fire"... A key feature of this album is the seamless flow and ebb of the music, even the use of blastbeats followed by a melodic solo on 'Cold is the Grave' enhancing, rather than disturbing, the carefully built-up atmosphere... [This album is] a major step forward from a first-class band."

Decibel Magazine (USA) - 8/10
"In a way, De Profundis came up in the wrong decade. In the ’90s, they would have fit right in with the Peaceville Three. Their brand of doom metal is very melodic, very English... [But] in a way, De Profundis came up in the right decade... Not only have they mastered the Peaceville Three vibe, they’ve also studied death and black metal... This record has the organic feel of Individual Thought Patterns, but with a much wider palette... The real magic is in the combination [of the ingredients]. Melodies twist and rub against each other; sometimes they embrace, but at other times they grapple. Then they disappear down holes of deep riffing, only to re-emerge lusher than before, layered with clean tones and hushed vocals. Like the best dark chocolate, the taste is bittersweet. Unlike so much of modern doom, there’s light, however flickering, at the end of the tunnel."

HeavyWorlds (IT) - 7.5/10
"...a very special album, difficult to classify well in its complexity, beautifully produced and masterfully executed and composed..."

Ice-Vajal - 8/10
"...different shades of extreme metal melt into the intense De Profundis sound..."

Metal.de (GER) - 8/10 ("Editor's Pick")
"...'A Bleak Reflection' is a fantastic start for Doom in 2010... Musically, [De Profundis] show creativity and innovation... Anyone who shows enthusiasm for interesting, varied and incredibly atmospheric music should give 'A Bleak Reflection' a chance."

ZwareMetalen (HOL) - 76/100
"...Comparisons to [De Profundis] are not really appropriate, since there are so few references...Take a healthy dose of progressive death metal including Sadist-esque bass-playing, the ambiance and guitar melodies of My Dying Bride and a dark sense of adventure..."

MetalChroniques (FRA) - 8/10
"It is a giant who stands before us, massive and powerful, but yet all in subtlety... The group guide us with consistency through compositions whose length never comes taint interest... The structure of album has been crafted to allow a true sequence of ideas and moods... ['A Bleak Reflection' is] an opus that black metal fans will certainly appreciate, prog-fans will listen with interest, and proponents of doom/death will find enough interesting ingredients to give the album some well-deserved plays."

New Bassist

"Hailz,

De Profundis and bassist Aleksej Obradovic have parted ways after more than 3 years of successful collaboration due to musical differences. Additionally, Aleksej's job commitments would have made it very hard for the band to go touring or to perform live on a regular basis. The split was amicable and we remain on good terms with Aleksej.

De Profundis would like to thank Aleksej for his contribution to the band and wish him the best of luck in his future musical endeavours.

A replacement bass player has already been found. We have been fortunate enough to secure Arran McSporran's services as a new full-time band member. Arran will be laying down all the bass tracks on the new De Profundis album, due to be recorded in June 2009 with producer Fernando Pereira. Arran will be making his live debut with De Profundis at Romania's Rock City Open Air 2009 Festival.

We will be shortly announcing several more festival dates this summer.
